School of Energy Science and Engineering was established in June 1994. The s
chool consists of the Department of Thermo-power Engineering, Engine pneumat
ics Research Center, Thermo-power and Environment Engineering Center, Dynami
cal Engineering Control and Simulation Institute, the Techniques Service Cen
ter of Defense Science Industry, the Green Techniques' Monitoring Center, Ha
rbin Green Printery, HIT Dongli Mechanics and Electricity High-tech Company.
And the bimonthly journal, the Techniques of Economizing on Energy, has its
editorial department in the Techniques Service Center of Defense Science In
dustry. This journal was originated in July1983, and has been issued through
out the country.
The school offers the specialty of Thermo-power and Dynamical Engineering; a
nd 5 teaching and researching sections: Thermo Work, Thermo-power Engineerin
g, Thermo-power Engine, Fluid Machinery and Engineering, Air-condition and R
efrigeration; 3 doctoral degree programs: Engineering Thermo Physics, Thermo
-power Engineering, Dynamical Mechanism and Engineering; 4 master's degree p
rograms: Fluid Mechanism and Engineering (beside the 3 doctoral programs). A
nd the research station of the Dynamical Engineering and Engineering Thermo
Physics for postdoctoral fellows was approved in 1994. .
The school faculty consists of 74, 22 of whom are professors (1 academician
of Chinese Academy of Engineering and 12 supervisors), 25 associate professo
rs, 26 of whom have possessed doctoral degrees, which is 35.1 percent of the
faculty. Of the middle-aged or young faculty, 1 has gained the National Nat
ural Science Fund for Outstanding Youth, and 4 have won the Huo Yingdong You
ng Teachers' Fund. Now the enrollment of the school includes 475 bachelor's
degree candidates, 60 master's degree candidates, 44 doctoral degree candida
tes and 8 postdoctoral researchers.
The school has set up a more perfect teaching system in the cultivating of b
achelor's degree candidates –– master's degree candidates –– doctoral de
gree candidates, and has trained a large number of senior specialists and te
achers on different levels. Some of the graduates from the school has held p
osts in the national ministries or committees, provinces, cities; some have
become the famous domestic enterprisers, specialists, scholars and professor
s; and some have become chairmen and academic leaders of the schools or facu
lties of energy or dynamical in HIT or other sister universities.
The major research fields which the school is engaged in are: technical qual
ity thermo physical character; the analyzing and efficient use of energy; tr
ansmitting heat by radiancy and coupling; the infrared character of the goal
and environment; the burning of coal and its pollution control; fluidized b
ed burning; multiple phase flowing and heat transmission; the development an
d application of new energy; dynamical mechanical pneumatic theory; experime
nt and data simulation; circle mechanical rotor dynamical and fault diagnose
; thermodynamic system control; fluid mechanical basic theory; simulation an
d fault diagnose; fluid power transmission equipment and fluid power control
system; fluid dynamical components; dynamical system automation and control
system.
The school possesses 17 laboratories (the current areas –– about 2,400 squ
are meters): heat transmission, engineering thermodynamics, burning, fluid m
echanics, strength and vibration, autocontrol and adjustment, fluid machiner
y, air-condition and refrigeration etc.
In the recent 10 years, the school has acquired a series of achievements in
education and scientific research. In the teaching areas, 33 teaching materi
als and treatises have been published, 1 special prize of the National Outst
anding Teaching Fruits, and 3 special prizes of ministerial or provincial ou
tstanding teaching fruits have been won. In the scientific research fields,
the school has completed 280 scientific research projects, among them 1 seco
nd prize of the State Natural Science Fund (1993), 1 fourth prize of the Sta
te Natural Science Fund (1988), 3 third prizes of the National Sci-tech Prog
ress Prize, 4 first prizes, 15 second prizes and 14 third prizes of the mini
sterial or provincial sci-tech progress prize.
The school has gone abroad, conducted technical cooperation and academic com
munication with many industrialized countries in order to t to extend the sc
ientific research fields continuously, overtake the international advanced l
evel. It has already exchanged academically, visited or signed the long-term
agreements with USA, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Australia, Germany, Fr
ance, England, Belgium, Holland, Greece, Korea, Thailand, South Africa. Ther
e are 67 person-times of going abroad for further study, and technically exc
hanging or visiting. And two productions have opened the markets of Germany,
Thailand, and South Africa.
