                                INTRODUCTION
    Department of Automation Measurement and Control in Harbin Institute of 
Technology consists of one post-doctor-station of Instrumentation Science and 
Technology, the Doctoral Program of Instrumentation Science and Technology 
that includes two doctoral degree programs and two master degree programs. The
department owns 5 teaching-research (T&R) divisions, 9 teaching laboratories ,
4 research divisions and 1 reference library. In the department, there are 108
staff members that involve 11 doctoral supervisors, 13 professors and 26 
associate professors; there are 800 students that involve 50 doctoral 
candidates, 90 postgraduate students, and 700 under-graduate students. The 
total area for laboratories and offices is 3600 square meters.
    For the need of the advanced technology of astronautics and industry 
automation, the department has formed the research directions having the 
characteristics focused on Precision,Ultra-precision Test and Device Research,
Integrated Test Automation and Control under the background of satellites, 
carrier rockets. Many research fields, such as Automated Test Technology and 
System for aerocrafts based on VXI bus, Ultra-precision and Nanometer 
Measuring Technology and Instrumentation Engineering, Radiation Thermometry 
and Thermal Physical Property Measurement Technology, and Virtual and Bionic 
Measuring Technology and Instrumentation Engineering, are in the top level 
either in the country or abroad. In the last years, our researchers have 
completed over 50 projects of national defence pre-research and engineering 
projects and national science fund projects for astronautics in which1 won 
second-class prize and 1 won third-class prize for National Science Progress, 
6 won first-class prize and over 30 won second-class prize of the Ministry. 
Over 700 science papers and over 20 monographs were published. Nowadays, the 
department is charged with over 30 significant research projects subjected to 
the State and Ministry. The total research fee has attained to 36,000,000 
yuan.
    At present, the department is striving to construct the research base for 
national defence and state-class measurement and instrumentation engineering,
and make contribution to astronautic industry, tip technologies and industrial
field.
