About Objects and Properties

When you build applications with Oracle Forms, much of your development work involves
creating objects and setting their properties. For example, a text item has properties such as
Width, Height, Data Type, and Required. A window object has properties such as Title,
Modal, Remove on Exit, etc. When you create an object, its properties are automatically set
to default settings.

You can set properties to control not just the look of the objects you create, but also their
functionality. This approach to application development facilitates rapid development, and
reduces the need to write code to perform standard operations such as

         o      querying, inserting, updating, and deleting records

         o      defining queries

         o      coordinating master and detail records

         o      controlling navigation

         o      displaying objects

Many object properties can be set at runtime as well as design time.
