Connecting to ORACLE
You can run Oracle Forms Designer connected to the ORACLE database or standalone.
Many design operations, such as browsing database tables or compiling PL/SQL trigger
code, require the Designer to be connected to ORACLE. However, other procedures, such as
working on the layout for a form window, can be accomplished without having to be
connected to ORACLE.
You can connect to ORACLE from the command line when you start Oracle Forms Designer,
or at any time while you are working in the Designer.
To connect to ORACLE at the command line:
Enter a valid connect string on the command line when you start Oracle Forms Designer:
f45des accounts scott/tiger@t:bigcorp:SALES
If you do not specify a module to be loaded at startup, you must specify the userid keyword:
f45des userid=scott/tiger@t:bigcorp:SALES
To connect to ORACLE from the Designer:
1. Select File->Connect
The Connect dialog appears.
2. Enter a valid username, password, and database connect string in the appropriate
fields.
3. Choose Connect.
When you first start Oracle Forms Designer, you see the Object Navigator.
