CORBA and XML are complimentary standards for building flexible, scalable, l
ow maintenance
distributed systems. The emerging set of XML Standards is gaining widespread
 industry support in
content management, delivery, and presentation at the web-based frontend of 
todays Enterprise
Systems. CORBA is a distributed object technology allowing systems on hetero
geneous platforms to
communicate through commonly defined services providing a scalable infrastru
cture, or backbone, to
todays Enterprise Systems.
As business data is increasingly being encoded in an XML form and sent acros
s the internet, a need for
native processing of XML data under CORBA is required. Integrating CORBA and
 XML allows: XML
data received from web-based systems to be efficiently processed by CORBA sy
stems providing data
access and query services to the web; XML data to be sent back to web system
s; CORBA Objects be
quired through XML based Messaging protocols etc…
The Integration of CORBA and XML is a small piece of the overall solution to
 the provision of
Enterprise Level software systems for todays emerging web-based businesses a
nd traditional
businesses migrating services to the internet. This paper is focused specifi
cally on the representation
and flexible transport of XML over CORBA in both legacy and recent CORBA sys
tems, and discusses
the need for the provision of CORBA based XML Services which compliment inte
grated
CORBA/XML systems.
