we had planned it to be this week, but I now doubt it will be out till
the middle of next week at least. We need to do lots of testing.
If you need it sooner then grab it from our CVS or rsync servers.

Steve thanks for answering, especially in your condition:-)
I _do_ understand you perfectly. But what you describe is not the case
here, in fact on purpose I redirect 2>/dev/null as well.
I reckon it's the fact that in the tar sequence, just like the one you
give, one adds the 'B' option on both sides especially in networked copy
operations.
thus ' tar cBf - * | (cd /foo/bar; tar xBf -)'
smbtar (or I should say smbclient) doesn't seem to support it.

Noticed that no-one has applied this patch to
the current 2.0 tree yet.
It does work - I've tested it.

samba 2.0.5a.
ah.
i did the commit to cvs main repository, not 2.0.5a. i don't work on
2.0.X, only on cvs main.
oops.
ok, can you check out the main cvs source code and fix it cut/paste style?
see http://samba.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/samba/source/rpc_server/srv_lsa.c,
obtain a diff and patch it to 2.0.5a.

Note that, as I written to you, the oplock changes in pre-2.0.6 possibly
cause more problems than 2.0.5a (at least on my systems).
I see oplock.c has not changed since I downloaded it (october 1 1999).

My fileserver does no file locking even when file locking and oplocks
and this stuff
is turned on :(
Need this !!

Jeremy,
That sounds like a very good idea :-)
We're using a HP D390 UNIX server (HP-UX 10.20) with about 100 UNIX clients
.We're in the process of migrating the same number of users to NT Clearcase
.We're currently using Samba V.2.0.3 with plans to move to V.2.0.5a (if thi
sversion works).
The Syntax TAS SMB server doesn't work on HP-UX 10.20 only HP-UX 11.x.
If you want to use a SMB solution on HP-UX 10.20 then Samba is the only
option.
If you require any more information please let me know.
Thanks
Simon

Is there a way to make samba automatically mount a home directory?
That is, a user logging in (from Linux), enters its username and
password(Samba), and the system automatically mounts the user's home
directory from the samba server(without asking the password again).
Has anyone ever tried to do this? And succedeed :-) ?

Hi,
we had exactly the same problem. It seems the binary version of samba
that comes with SuSE 6.0 has been compiled on the wrong kernel. Just
recompile it from the sources on the production kernel without smbmount
(configure --without-smbmount), and you should be ok.
cheers

Ditto for me, I once had 6 screwed up mounts of the same share trying to

Hello!
I need a little help: I have a Linux file server with Mac, PC and NT client
s.The MAC can generate strange filenames with special characters in it, for
example letters from the hungarian alphabet, maybe ISO8859-2. Letters like
"/", "\" are also permitted. "~" is also a problem, the MAC file
"files~~~~name.ps" becomes truncated to 8.3 when checked from a PC. I tried
the mangled and valid chars options, but they are either not solutions for
my case or I use them wrong.
The software are RedHat 6.0, netatalk-asun-2.1.3, and samba-2.0.5a.
Any help would be appreciated,
Szabo Akos

Right. But I bet you have guest account = nobody, which is used to get a
sharelist (smbclient -L) from the server. You are asked for a password
of MYUSER, but nevertheless the sharelist is retrieved as guest. It's
all clearly stated in the logs!
Cheers,
Michal

I finally got beaten with a great big clue stick and have
found and fixed this problem :-).
The fix will be in 2.0.6, but if you need it now, here's
the diff against 2.0.5a.
