第四十四章                       CHAPTER 44
  1 约瑟吩咐家宰说、把粮食装满这   1 And he commanded the steward of his house,
些人的口袋、尽著他们的驴所能驮的 saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much
、又把各人的银子放在各人的口袋里 as they can carry, and put every man's money in

  3 天一亮就打发那些人带著驴走了   3 As soon as the morning was light, the men

  4 他们出城走了不远、约瑟对家宰   4 And when they were gone out of the city,
说、起来追那些人去、追上了就对他 and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his
们说、你们为甚麽以恶报善呢。     steward, Up, follow after the men; and when
                                 thou dost overtake them, say unto them,
                                 Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
  5 这不是我主人饮酒的杯麽、岂不   5 Is not this it in which my lord drinketh,
是他占卜用的麽、你们这样行是作恶 and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done
了。                             evil in so doing.
  6 家宰追上他们、将这些话对他们   6 And he overtook them, and he spake unto

  7 他们回答说、我主为甚麽说这样   7 And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my
的话呢、你仆人断不能作这样的事。 lord these words? God forbid that thy servants
                                 should do according to this thing:
  8 你看、我们从前在口袋里所见的   8 Behold, the money, which we found in our
银子、尚且从迦南地带来还你、我们 sacks' mouths, we brought again unto thee out
怎能从你主人家里偷窃金银呢。     of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal
                                 out of thy lord's house silver or gold?
  9 你仆人中、无论在谁那里搜出来   9 With whomsoever of thy servants it be
、就叫他死、我们也作我主的奴仆。 found, both let him die, and we also will be my
                                 lord's bondmen.
 10 家宰说、现在就照你们的话行罢  10 And he said, Now also let it be according
、在谁那里搜出来、谁就作我的奴仆 unto your words: he with whom it is found shall
．其馀的都没有罪。               be my servant; and ye shall be blameless.
 11 於是他们各人急忙把口袋卸在地  11 Then they speedily took down every man his
下、各人打开口袋。               sack to the ground, and opened every man his
                                 sack.
 12 家宰就搜查、从年长的起、到年  12 And he searched, and began at the eldest,
幼的为止、那杯竟在便雅悯的口袋里 and left at the youngest: and the cup was found

 13 他们就撕裂衣服、各人把驮子抬  13 Then they rent their clothes, and laded

 15 约瑟对他们说、你们作的是甚麽  15 And Joseph said unto them, What deed is
事呢、你们岂不知像我这样的人必能 this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a

 16 犹大说、我们对我主说甚麽呢．  16 And Judah said, What shall we say unto my

 17 约瑟说、我断不能这样行、在谁  17 And he said, God forbid that I should do

 19 我主曾问仆人们说、你们有父亲  19 My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye

 20 我们对我主说、我们有父亲、已  20 And we said unto my lord, We have a father,
经年老、还有他老年所生的一个小孩 an old man, and a child of his old age, a
子、他哥哥死了、他母亲只撇下他一 little one; and his brother is dead, and he
人、他父亲疼爱他。               alone is left of his mother, and his father
                                 loveth him.
 21 你对仆人说、把他带到我这里来  21 And thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring
、叫我亲眼看看他。               him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon
                                 him.
 22 我们对我主说、童子不能离开他  22 And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot
父亲、若是离开、他父亲必死。     leave his father: for if he should leave his
                                 father, his father would die.
 23 你对仆人说、你们的小兄弟若不  23 And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except
与你们一同下来、你们就不得再见我 your youngest brother come down with you, ye

 24 我们上到你仆人我们父亲那里、  24 And it came to pass when we came up unto

 25 我们的父亲说、你们再去给我籴  25 And our father said, Go again, and buy us a

 26 我们就说、我们不能下去、我们  26 And we said, We cannot go down: if our
的小兄弟若和我们同往、我们就可以 youngest brother be with us, then will we go
下去、因为小兄弟若不与我们同往、 down: for we may not see the man's face, except
我们必不得见那人的面。           our youngest brother be with us.
 27 你仆人我父亲对我们说、你们知  27 And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye
道我的妻子给我生了两个儿子。     know that my wife bare me two sons:
 28 一个离开我出去了、我说、他必  28 And the one went out from me, and I said,
是被撕碎了、直到如今我也没有见他 Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not
．                               since:
 29 现在你们又要把这个带去离开我  29 And if ye take this also from me, and
、倘若他遭害、那便是你们使我白发 mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my
苍苍、悲悲惨惨的下阴间去了。     gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.
 30 我父亲的命与这童子的命相连、  30 Now therefore when I come to thy servant my
如今我回到你仆人我父亲那里、若没 father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that
有童子与我们同在、               his life is bound up in the lad's life;
 31 我们的父亲见没有童子、他就必  31 It shall come to pass, when he seeth that
死．这便是我们使你仆人我们的父亲 the lad is not with us, that he will die: and
白发苍苍、悲悲惨惨的下阴间去了。 thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of
                                 thy servant our father with sorrow to the
                                 grave.
 32 因为仆人曾向我父亲为这童子作  32 For thy servant became surety for the lad
保、说、我若不带他回来交给父亲、 unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto
我便在父亲面前永远担罪。         thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father
                                 for ever.
 33 现在求你容仆人住下、替这童子  33 Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant
作我主的奴仆、叫童子和他哥哥们一 abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord;
同上去。                         and let the lad go up with his brethren.
 34 若童子不和我同去、我怎能上去  34 For how shall I go up to my father, and the
见我父亲呢、恐怕我看见灾祸临到我 lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the
父亲身上。                       evil that shall come on my father.
