Mei's parents were both officers in the army, so she lived with her 
grandmother since she was very young. Mei had inherited all the advantages 
from her parents, both physical and mental. She never wore high-heeled shoes, 
for that would make her seem too tall. She liked sports, which helps her to 
keep fit. She was both intelligent and diligent; therefore she was always the 
one who won the first prize in examinations. She started playing piano from an 
early age and was directed by a famous pianist. It was said that she had 
once won a prize abroad. So Mei's pursuers could practically form a brigade. 
But I was not among them.
  
Since I was born, I was a good child, and after I entered the school, again
a docile student. But unfortunately, my average height, ordinary looks, and
common family background couldn't help me to capture a popular image among
girls. I knew this quite well; therefore, I always exhorted myself to keep 
quiet before girls. However, one day, my heart betrayed me.
