If waiting for ages
On the mist-covered bank of the river,
Why I did so
Was only because of you.
As you were crossing it,
A rusty lute'd be played for you.

If things are vanishing by time,
Finally,
I'd settle my hope,
Then
Watch you go away
In the voice of the Great Hills and Running Water.

No more to say, even any poem.
Acompanying the sound of lute,
You are slightly nodding in white.
But you won't know,
Never!
Each of metres and words I am chanting
Is symbolizing the last life
We were together leading.

But now,
I am just an ordinary player,
In this gaudy.

As music has been stopped,
As men have been dismissed,
As your ship has been merged into sky,
As I have been devoured into fog,

What is left
Is only
The mist-covered bank of the river.
