PEACOCK
This gorgeous bird with its "hundred eyed" tail is widely associated wit
h love and the stars in the sky. its restless spiral dance before rainfall a
ssociates it with storm. In Christian myth its renewal of its plumage associ
ates it with immortality and resurrection. Associated by Romans with the god
dess Juno, earlier it was an attribute of the Greek god Pan, who gave it up
to Hera, who scattered its hundred starry eyes over its tail. It is also the
emblem of Sarasvati, Indian goddess of wisdom, music and poetry. Its associ
ation with worldly pride and vanity is more recent. It also denotes royalty,
as in the "Peacock Throne" of the Shahs of Persia.
