Hefei, the capital of east China's Anhui Province, set up an industrial park
 recently for a pharmaceutical research and development center using biologi
cal engineering technology.
Located in the Hefei High-Tech Industrial Development Park, the industrial p
ark, home to about 30 companies specialized in biological and pharmaceutical
 technology, cost 380 million yuan (46 million U.S. dollars).
The companies have produced 32 new drugs approved or waiting for approval by
 the State Drug Administration.
Local planners say the industrial park will be built into one of the country
's leading drug research, development and production centers through the use
 of biological engineering technology.
By the end of 2005, the number of drug companies within the park will be inc
reased to 80 with a combined annual output value of 5 billion yuan (about 60
9 million U.S. dollars).
