Sino-U.S. relations have bright prospects in the 21st century, the Chinese F
oreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said here Tuesday at a regular press conf
erence.
Since U.S. President George Bush assumed office in 2001, Sino-U.S. relations
 have had their ups and downs, Sun said, even though both sides made their e
fforts in bilateral cooperation in the latter half of 2001. This included cl
ose cooperation on counter-terrorist issues, he noted.
"Dialogue on human rights issues has been resumed and is making progress."
Speaking of Taiwan, Sun said China has noticed that the U.S. again repeated 
its one-China policy and China appreciates the policy.
The United States, the world's largest developed country, and China, the lar
gest developing country, are both permanent members of the United Nations Se
curity Council, Sun said.
Both countries shoulder important responsibility for world peace and develop
ment, and have more in common than differences, Sun said.
On the basis of these common interests, both parties will strengthen their c
ooperation and solve their problems through dialogue and consultation, Sun s
aid.
Sun believes Bush's working visit to China scheduled for February 21-22 will
 be constructive with efforts by both parties.
