Major Neal Peckham, media officer for the International Security Assistance 
Force (ISAF), Saturday said that the ISAF will finish deployment by mid-Febr
uary in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
"The total number will be 5,000 persons, and then it will decrease to 4,500 
for some engineers will leave," said the military officer.
The low speed of deployments was mainly due to the bad transportation, said 
Peckham, adding the Kabul International Airport was opened only days ago. No
t until then could the ISAF use the Bagram airbase about 50 kilometers north
 of Kabul, he said.
"Until now, 1,530 peacekeeping soldiers have arrived in Kabul,"he said.
Answering to a question whether the ISAF had met any problems in Kabul, Peck
ham said that he just heard some Afghan people, for example, some ethnic gro
ups or warlords, were not happy with the deployment of the ISAF.
"But up to now, we didn't meet any problems; the Afghan people are very kind
 to us," he said.
The international peacekeeping force, which is led by Britain for the first 
three months of its six-month term, will be only deployed in the Afghan capi
tal as the first step, he added.
