comment on self-abasement of Chinese
First of all, I should appriciate the webmaster of this english forum of n
ot deleting my former article titled “ why chinese hates japanese“, because
this kind of topic is so disputed that it will arouse many insanity quarrels.
Before I found tianyaclub forum, I had never realized that anti-japanese i
mpulse was so prevailing and crazy. Racial dignity of course is very important
to a country like China which has experienced long time of aggression and col
ony, but as we all know that turth is only a stone’s away from absurdness, th
is blindless racial dignity has surpassed its rational limit. Someone urges al
l Chineses to boycott japanese goods regardless of millions of workers serving
in sino-japan cooperations. Someone is accused of traitor just becasue they t
ry to re-estiblish an objective attitude towards our neighbour. All these give
me an impression that anti-japanese equals patriotism, and the more you humil
iate Japanese, the more patriotic you are. As a rational Chinese, I can not ke
ep silence any more and I want my voice heard. I don’t want my fellow citizen
s to be similar with muslins in Indonesia, who are nothing but killing machine
s aroused by racial hatred and ignorance, though the racial hatred of both countries is quite the same.
Someone argues that the hatred towards Japan is based on the misbehaviors
and atrocities committed by its servicemen in WWII, and not rooted in the raci
al self-abasement. I partly agree with the view, and that is why Chinese hates
Japanese more than Americans and other westerns. But I also want to reiterate
that the racial self-abasement plays an important role in our attitude toward
s japanese, a fact, though shameful to admit, but can not deny.
Chinese, a race with long history of faudalism, never regards human-being
as human-being. Look at our social enviroments. Farmer-workers are discriminat
ed all around this country where they cannot enjoy health care and equal educa
tion opportunity. They are abusively treated by police and despised by city ha
bitants who consider themselves as superior. Looking deep into our society, we
will find various kinds of discriminations cover all fields of this country.
Officials despise civilians, well-educated discriminates poor-educated, the ri
ch looks down on the poor. When we comment on a person, on which we focus is o
nly his title, social status, education background and so on.
All these are rooted in our soul, where discrimination forms part of our v
iew towards other countries and races. whatever we admit it or not, we are a l
ittle jealous about the whites for we regards them as a superior race higher t
han yellow-skinned. But we can not accept the fact that a asian race such as J
apan could surpass us, which has a strong relationship with our racial discrim
ination deeply rooted in our soul.
As a matter fact, we Asians should be proud of the achievements Japan has
done. Retrospecting the history of Nobel Prize, we can find japanese prize own
ers ranks the first in Asia, much more than rest of Asia. Their scientific and
technological achievements also earn respects the world, especially in the fi
eld of application science. It is Japan, not China, that keeps the most colorf
ul orienatal culture, which was originated from China. It is said that if you
want to recognize Chinese traditional culture, you should go to Japan rather t
han China. Last but not least, japan has the highest level of personel quality
in Asia, if not in the world.
We should stop the dangerous racial hatred and stop discriminating our fel
lew citizens. I hope one day we could treat a farmer-worker or a prostitute as
a human-being. That is a big progress in our society.
