Lost Horizon
　　 ---- Lost faith & Lost identity
　　
　　
　　 Finally, I got an opportunity to have a trip in Yunnan, which I had dream
t for years. So I did a research in last three days. Most of them were based o
n the information on Ctrip.com and journals of our travelers’. In order to in
trigue myself more, I read the book, “Lost Horizon”, which is about Shangri 
La.
　　
　　 Shangri La is a forbidden place. People there absorb themselves well into
 the nature. And outsiders are extremely difficult to reach the place because 
of the natural obstacles. Meanwhile, Shangri La has a gold mine and a mysterio
us supplying system to support their material needs. For example, they have a 
library which has a wide range of book storage. They have various kinds of mus
ic equipments. And they even have a warm as well as bath system. At routine ti
me, some outsiders, often Tibetans workers, send them required goods in exchan
ge for gold. 
　　
　　 To be more explicitly, people in Shangri La seem to have the super-natura
l ability to conquer time. They are often long life and can keep their outer a
ppearance in youth. No one knows how can they do this. Maybe it is because the
 abnormal natural atmosphere and their relevantly-believe-religion. Up to thei
r long life, they don’t need to do things in a hurry. And for the reason they
 can fulfill their material needs, there is no need to commit crimes. Thus the
y lead a management of relevant control to the people from the authority and h
ave a faith in the relevant-believe-religion. Because of all these, every one 
of them has a pursuit in one aspect of knowledge. But they do their study in a
 relevant speed for they have a long life to spend at the same time. So people
 will soon be accustomed to the place—the extremely beautiful landscape, the 
quite and peaceful atmosphere, and the opportunity to study all that you want 
to.
　　
　　The only one disadvantage is they need some other persons to come to Shang
ri La in order to inherit all this, for the little country’s survival. So, he
re come the four protagonists of the story. In one month, almost all of the fo
ur got used to Shangri La. 
　　
　　 Nevertheless, is that the paradise we often imagined? No gluttony, no gre
ed, no sloth, no pride, no envy, no wrath, and no lust. Is that the meaning of
 life? 
　　
　　 I once said the experience is the most important thing in life. Compare t
o unlimited peaceful life in Shangri La, the 24-year-old young man in the book
 choose to live a limited short life and experience everything: the war, love 
and hate etc, then pass away. Eventually, he “escaped.”
　　
　　 What is the matter with Shangri La?
　　
　　 As I read another book named “So Human an Animal” these days, the autho
r said the Sci-fi writers or modern prophets often describe our future as some
thing like automated kitchen; the care and behavior of children will be monito
red electronically; no need to call on one’s friends because it will be possi
ble to summon their voices, gestures, shapes, and complexions on the televisio
n-paneled walls of the living room……and he said the one possible aspect of t
he future seldom discussed by those who try to imagine the world-to-be is that
 human beings will become bored with all these. 
　　
　　 Yes, we human beings are inventing, bored, inventing again, bored again…
… Take a look at fashion. What is it? Fashion never ends and don’t have mean
ing in it. The world becomes contradictory. So do us.
　　
　　 Well, what do you choose, my friend? Find your Shangri La or remain in ou
r hypoactive, email-filled, and sleep-deprived world?
　　
　　 As for me, I’m going to Yunnan tomorrow to visit the so-called Shangri L
a. But I merely consider it as one of the experience in my life. Besides class
ical guitar music, I also need Pink Floyed, need football, need movies, need a
 wife, a kid, a big possibility indeed and …and? And so on.
　　
　　 I confess I am contradictory. 
　　
　　
　　
　　p.s My movie notes is therefore postponed according to my trip to Yunnan. 
However, I recommend “City of God.” A Brazil movie. Sorry about having no ti
