There is a long debate on the issue of whether the education system
should have a general standard on the curriculum setting. Some argues t
hat the policy should vary according the different condition in differe
nt areas in one country, others say common core curriculum could serve
the purpose of any nation. At the same time, however, individual part o
f the nation should have the freedom to augment any curricula to distin
ctive areas. But it is better to admit that a nation should require all
its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter co
llege rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to det
ermine which academic courses to offer, while there is good reason to a
rgue for a required national curriculum for all schools, national gover
nment should refrain from violating the cultural rights of ethnic group
s.
First, for a multi-peoples nation with large amplitude, it is of the mo
st importance to assure the integrity of the domain and the cohesion am
ong the different peoples. Since the great potential difference in the
lifestyle and accustoms of ethnic groups is the main gap on the commuta
tions and personnel reciprocation, the effective control of the differe
nt part of nation is depend on how to constitute a common nation concep
t and belief. In this case, a national curriculum contributes to the pr
eserving of a unified national culture and national cohesion.
On the other hand, in a multi-cultural society, different ethnic commun
ities should be given the opportunity to preserve and promote their tra
ditional cultures. The emphasization of the national faith is not a con
tradiction to obtain the diversity of parochial cultural. What make of
the country cultural is composed of its long history, including the fol
k-custom that come into being undergoing the endless variance of people
and things, the national language education may mean a disaster of et
hnolinguisticso because it retrain the live space of the ethnic languag
e, due to the limited conservation and spreading method the territorial
language, when compared to the former, stands on the advantageous grou
nd to develop. If the government ignore the psychology need of the trad
itional peoples on reserving the folk-cultural, it may destroy the cohe
sion between the jumping-off and central district. Although it lacks th
e firm evidence to prove that there is certain relationship between the
national curriculum and the decay of the folk-cultural, it is better t
o guard against the side effect of the unified education policy.
But it seemed there is not the absolutely scenario to solve the contrad
iction between the commonness and individuality. Considering the specia
l and unexchangable characteristic of two aspects, the best way out of
this dilemma is to combine a required national core curriculum with add
itional ethnic courses. An exclusive common core curriculum may pose ce
rtain problems which will outweight the benefits. Such as some student
with special ability or gift on some subject should be paid more attent
ion and give specific curricular different from the average student. In
my opinion, in this case, the educationor should have the freedom to a
dopt proper training to the students and augment some curriculum that w
oks well on the students. It's the teacher's responsibility to balance
the two curriculum and then put forward his educational level.
