Why couldn't I speak at my first visit to English Corner?
Just like the Chinese saying qianli zhi xing, shi yu zu xia (a thousand-li j
ourney is started by taking the first step), going to the English Corner is 
the first step taken towards becoming a good English speaker. So, my dear re
aders, congratulations if you have been to English Corner at least once.
However, many of you may say then, "Yes, I have been to English Corner, but 
I could not speak anything at all." Then you go on to list some reasons why 
you did not speak. For example, you were too nervous; other people spoke too
 fast and you could not follow them; you thought your English was poor and w
ere afraid of making grammatical mistakes; you are a shy person, and not use
d to talking with strangers. The list can go on and on. But I believe that t
he basic reason you didn't talk at you first visit to English Corner was due
 to your poor readiness, that is, because you were not well prepared both in
tellectually and psychologically. As you have not prepared what you want to 
talk about, how can you expect to say something? As you have no idea how Eng
lish Corner looks like, how can you not feel uneasy when you find yourself a
t a strange place? So my suggestions are as follows:
1. Prepare yourself both intellectually and psychologically before going to 
English Corner. In the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section below, I wil
l explain how you can do your preparation.
2. Go to the English Corner bravely for another time. If you fail to do so, 
I am nearly sure that you would never visit English Corner ever again and, a
s a result, you will have lost a golden opportunity to improve your oral Eng
lish.
