Release an album
流行音乐的天皇巨星迈克尔-杰克逊将在今年10月下旬推出他这六年来的第一张个人专集
。外电这样报道: "Michael Jackson fans got the news they were waiting for on 
Thursday: the ``King of Pop's'' first studio album in six years -- one that 
reportedly cost a record-setting $30 million to make -- will be released in 
late October." 我们一起来学习这个句子：Michael Jackson fans--迈克尔-杰克逊的
歌迷；album--相册的意思，这里是演唱专集的意思；record-setting --创记录的 (se
t a record); release an album-发行专集。
Restore calm to …
北爱尔兰首府贝尔法斯特新教徒和天主教徒之间爆发大规模冲突，并逐步升级为暴乱。
北爱警察随即介入，企图控制局面。我们看这样一句外电报道: "Northern Ireland po
lice and British troops restored calm to a Belfast flashpoint（着火点） area
 on Friday after a second night of rioting by rival Protestant and Roman Cat
holic crowds." 这里 "restore calm to…"是"维持和平，维持稳定"的意思。 "Calm"
这里用作名词， 可以解释为"peace and quiet; absence of excitemnet or nervous 
activity"。在词组 "calm down"中， "calm"则用作动词， 意思是"安静下来，平静下
来"。
Row
Row 是一个很常用的词，有很多种词义，我们平时常用的词义有："（名词）一列，一排
；街，道路；（动词）列队；划船"等等。可是除了这些还有什么其他的词义呢？Row还
有一个词义是"吵闹，吵架，激烈的争论"。例如，近日关于中美飞机赔偿事件的报道中
就有这样一个新闻标题："New Sino-US row bubbles up over spy plane bill "。另外
，row还有"受批评，挨骂"的意思，如："She gave me a row for being late"。
