ruction ("RUK-shun") n.
origin: possibly derived from an alteration of "insurrection"
1. A riotous disturbance; a noisy quarrel.
"'Well, Buck," he went on in a genial voice, "we've had our little
ruction, and the best thing we can do is to let it go at that.
You've learned your place, and I know mine. Be a good dog and
all'll go well and the goose hang high. Be a bad dog, and I'll
whale the stuffin' outa you. Understand?" "
--Jack London, "Call of the Wild"
"Oh, me fame went abroad through the nation,
And folks came a-flockin' to see,
And they cried out, without hesitation,
"You're a fightin' man, Billy McGhee!",
Oh, I've cleaned out the Finnegan faction,
And I've licked all the Murphys afloat,
If you're in for a row or a ruction,
Just tread on the tail o' me..."
--The Clancy Brothers, "Mush Mush"
(written by Patric Galvin)
