牵线搭桥
有人问我："He is a medium 是什么意思？" medium有个意思是：
an individual held to be a channel of communication between
the earthly world and a world of spirits。这句话的意思是：
他是个巫师。或:他是个神汉。
medium （巫师/神汉）是第一类中间人，他自称鬼魂附体，替鬼魂
代言，传达于人。
第二类中间人是为男女牵线搭桥的媒人，英语用match-maker,
go-between等表示，例如：
1. In old China, young people had to obey their parents'
order and follow their match-makers' advice.
在旧中国，青年人不得不听从父母之命，媒妁之言。
2. The go-between acted as a link between the young man and
the young woman. 这个媒人曾在这对青年男女之间牵线搭桥。
第三类中间人是为了买卖双方牵线搭桥的经纪人，英语用middleman,
broker, agent等表示，例如:
1. Direct trade may eliminate a middleman.
直接贸易可以不用中间人。
2. Stockbrokers are expected to work conscientiously to
increase the profits of their clients.
人们期望证券经纪人自觉地工作，以提高委托人的利润。
3. His house agent helped him sell the house at a reasonable
price. 他的房产经纪人帮他卖了房子，价钱合理。
broker 与agent可以构成许多符合词：stockbroker（证券经纪人），
black-market broker（黑市经纪人），foreign exchange broker
（外汇经纪人），insurance broker/insurance agent（保险经纪人），
custom(s)-house broker（报关经纪人），(real) estate broker
/agent（房地产经纪人），ship broker（船舶经纪人），house
agent（房产经纪人），land agent（地产经纪人），business
agent（商业经纪人）等。
"代理人"，即受权代表他人的人，在英语中可用agent, deputy,
proxy等词表示，例如：
1. His local agent helped him win the election.
他的地方代理人帮助他在竞选中取胜。
2. I must find a person to act as deputy for me during my
absence. 我必须找个人在我缺席时做我的代理人。
3. The groom was overseas, his brother acted as his proxy
at the ceremony.
新郎在海外，他的弟弟作为他的代理人出席仪式。
"代表"用representative表示，例如：
1. They sent a representative to the international
conference. 他们派一名代表参加这个国际会议。
2. Ambassadors are representatives of their country's
government who are stationed in other nations' capitals.
大使是驻在他国首都的本国政府的代表。
此外，是substitute"替补者"，understudy是"候补演员"，
stand-in是"替身演员"，stunt man是"特技替身演员"。
