柴米油盐
汉语用"柴米油盐"泛指必需的生活资料。工资，又称薪金。
"薪"就是"柴"。"薪金"原是买柴的钱，相当于英语的salary。
而salary原与salt（盐）有关，是买盐的钱。
英语表示"收入"的名词有income（收入），earnings（所挣得的钱），
pay（工钱），wages（周工资），salary（月薪）等，如：
1. What is your yearly/annual income? 你的年收入是多少？
2. He lives within his income. 他量入为出。
3. He has spent all his earnings. 他花完了全部挣的钱。
4. His earnings are not sufficient to support his family.
他挣的钱不够养家糊口。
5. He gets his pay on Fridays. 他在星期五领工薪。
6. How much pay do you get for this job? 你干这个工作能挣
多少工钱？
7. What are you weekly wages? 你的周工资是多少？
8. He takes his wages home to his wife every Friday.
每星期五他把工资带回家交给妻子。
9. How much salary does this job pay? 这个工作付多少薪金？
10. The company pays good salary. 这个公司的工薪很高。
其它表示 "收入"的名词有subsidy（补贴），allowance（生活
补助金），grant（助学金），pension（退休金）等，如：
1. The government provided a subsidy on meat. 政府对肉类
提供补贴。
2. The local people receive food subsidies regularly from
the government. 本地居民定期从政府那里领取食品补贴。
3. The poor family is given a regular allowance.
这个贫困家庭得到定期生活补助金。
4. The student receives a monthly allowance of money from
his parents. 这个学生每月从父母那里得到一笔生活费。
5. Many students receive a grant in order to be able to
study at university. 许多学生靠领取助学金在大学学习。
6. When prices rise, students find it difficult to live
on a grant. 物价上涨时，学生们感到难以靠助学金生活。
7. These old people retire on a pension. 这些老人靠退休金
生活。
8. The retirement pension is usually known as the old age
pension. 退休金通常被称做养老金。
