interrex (IN-tuhr-reks) noun, plural interreges (in-tuhr-REE-jeez)
A person holding supreme authority in a state during an interregnum (the
interval of time between the end of a sovereign's reign and the accession
of a successor).
[From Latin, inter- between + rex, king.]
