party pooper

Definition: One who ruins a good time; a negative person who destroys the ha
ppiness of others.

Example: 1) Karen is such a party pooper! We were having a great time until 
she showed up.
         2) Professor Green is a real party pooper -- he gave us an essay to 
write ov er winter vacation.

Etymology: A party is a festive social gathering, and 'pooped' means 'tired'
 or 'without energy'. So a 'party pooper' is someone who takes all the energ
y out of a social gathering, making everyone tired and unhappy.

Synonyms: killjoy, wet blanket
