fall apart
Definition: To break down emotionally; to lose control.
Example: 1) Cynthia fell apart after the death of her beloved pet cat, Fluffy.
2) Don't fall apart on me now, Margaret -- we're almost there!
Etymology: When an object 'falls apart', it breaks down into smaller pieces an
d no longer holds together. As slang, 'fall apart' refers to the collapse of e
motions.
