Preface
This Sceptred Isle is a transcript originated from a BBC Radio4's serial pro
gramme with the same name. It gives us a general, and sometimes detailed pic
ture of British history from the Roman Invasion in 55 BC to the death of Que
en Victoria in 1901 AD, as its name shows-sceptred means from and under cont
rol of a monarch and isle island. I, personally, am highly interested in thi
s book and use it to learn about the basics of British history, which, I sup
pose, might be a delicious meal for people who are fond of English language
and its associated culture. In consideration of my own studying needs and th
e intention of sharing knowledge and understandings with others, I am managi
ng to narrate this history in the book in the form of stories and episodes.
In order to achieve this goal as well as enable most people, who are scarce
of advance English linguistic knowledge-including children, get understood a
nd benefit from those stories, I am trying to make my narration as simple as
possible. Therefore, rudimental words and simple sentences will be used to
the most extent.
Suggestions are warmly welcome. Thank you for reading and wish it was intere
sting.
