                            Story Two
                 Caesar's Invasion into Britain


In 55 BC, Caesar plotted and planned, he treated the British island as his n
ext aim to invade, to conquer, and to gain treasures and slaves. He made his
 about 50,000 soldiers leave in Boulogne that is in France today and facing 
to the English Strait. His idea was simple: crossing the strait, getting ash
ore, defeating the Britons and getting the wealth. So, he commanded his troo
p to get onto warships and advanced towards the other side of the strait at 
a midnight with a full moon.

Indeed, Some Britons already knew about him, because they once fought alongs
ide Caesar's men when Caesar was attaching Gaul. So they were quite knowledg
eable of his capabilities, and they waited him on the high hills with sharp 
cliffs along the coast of the island. When Caesar arrived, he realised this 
fact and feared about landing, since he knew missiles and stones could be hu
rled down and his soldiers could be injured easily. What's more, as we know,
 a full moon produces extreme tide, so it was even impossible for Caesar's s
hips to stop ashore there. Caesar had no choice but to wait, and sailed seve
n miles farther to find out another place to do so. But Britons were clever 
enough to know his plan, and they moved following him on the hills along the
 coast. When Caesar's troops got ashore there , what was waiting them was a 
group of highly warlike barbarians!

However, the Romans military was much stronger than Briton's, they landed an
d occupied the coast finally and step by step, got into the inland part. The
 Britons submitted, and Caesar won the war, but only apparently. Caesar knew
 what was exactly happening, so he returned to Rome with some captives and h
ostages in order to show his achievement to officials and his peoples, as we
ll as prepare for the next invasion. He was not a man to give up easily. In 
Italy, he himself designed a kind of special warship that could sail very we
ll in bad weather and extreme tides, and in 54 BC he fought back.

By the time of Caesar's second invasion, some tribes in Britain had had unit
ed under a leader called Cassivellaunus. He used an advanced weapon-chariots
-in battles. His power brought hatred from other tribes, and when Caesar inv
aded into the island, he had to fight Caesar in front and other tribes behin
d. Eventually an understanding of peas was reached and Britons were taken ho
stages again. Winter was approaching and there was a rebellion in Gaul, so C
aesar left the island with his prisoners. We don't know what else he took or
 anywhere else he visited, but it was the last time for him to see the beaut
iful scenes on the island for he was murdered in Rome in ten years time.
