标  题: The West and the East Zhou

Historians usually divided Zhou Dynasty into two separate one,
the West and the East, chronically. In the East Zhou Dynasty,
there was the start of so-called Spring and Autumn Period, then
the Waring State Period. The start of Spring and Autumn Period
was from the kingdom of Zheng, which was one of kingdoms dummed
by the King of Zhou, and at that time the kingdom of Zheng was
being governed by Wusheng Ji (姬悟生).

He has a neighbour, the kingdom of Hu. He wanted to endvour that
land. So he first sent his daughter to marry the king of Hu. Then
he summoned a military meeting to discuss which kingdom he sould
conquer first. An unlucky minister suggested that Hu have the highest
priority, so Wusheng Ji pretended to be furious: "How dare you say so,
the king of Hu is my son-in-law, how can I attack him?" That minister
was killed at once. On learning this, the king of Hu was moved so much
that he got rid of all  defending military on the boundary to the kingdom
of Zheng. Hence, Wusheng Ji and his men easily luanch an ambuscade and Hu
was over.

This conquest was the casus belli of wars in the East Zhou Dynasty. Form
then on, no monarchy authority was respected any longer, and those
small kingdoms began to defend, to conquer, to expand, or to perish, all
depended on themselves.
