        During apple season many Mainers take the dropped,

        bruised fruit to make applesauce.One of my friends,

        a true-blue native,was describing the batch she had

        made."It was pretty good,although a tad too tart,"

        she said.

        "How tart was it?"I asked.

        "Well,"she answered,"It was so tart that I smiled

        for a week against my own volotion."
