       "I make more than Calvin Coolidge! Put together!" 
 
Hollywood's painful transition from silent to sound technology 
provided a hilarious backdrop for this boy-meets-girl musical comedy 
starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. M-G-M had wanted a story that 
could incorporate some of the best-known musical numbers from the 
studio's library of films, and the team of Adolph Green and Betty 
Comden whipped up this delightful, high-energy spoof. An exuberant 
cast, classic tunes, and Kelly dancing up a storm--not to mention the 
acrobatics of Donald O'Connor and the shrill voice of blonde bombshell 
Lina Lamont (portrayed by the versatile Jean Hagen)--make it a pure
