One of the most imaginative fantasy films yet made, Steven Spielberg's 
E.T. deserved its worldwide box-office success. This magical tale 
concerns a stranded alien who luckily ends up in cute little Elliot's 
(Henry Thomas) backyard. E.T.'s goal: to get a message back home and 
leave Earth before it's too late. Eliot protects E.T. and eventually 
teaches it (him?) how to communicate, but the creature--masterfully 
designed by effects wizard Carlo Rambaldi--isn't as helpless as it 
first appears. When the potentially dangerous adult world begins to 
threaten the alien, Elliot lets his older brother (Robert MacNaughton) 
and younger sister (Drew Barrymore) in on the secret. In the role of 
their harried divorced mother, Dee Wallace radiates a sense of 
childlike wonder. John Williams' Oscar-winning score has become
