Relationships--can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. Or so this 
wittily uproarious romantic comedy, starring Woody Allen as comic Alvy 
Singer, and Diane Keaton as his singer girlfriend, Annie Hall, proves. 
The actors made a superb team in Allen's slapstick comedies Sleeper 
and Love and Death, but here they tap into a much richer and more 
realistic vein of humor. Allen wrote (with Marshall Brickman) and 
directed this bittersweet story of a breakup, making a great leap 
forward into character-driven comedy with Annie Hall. The film also 
stars Tony Roberts, Shelley Duvall, Carol Kane, and Paul Simon. Watch 
for Jeff Goldblum's memorable line at an L.A. party. Academy Awards 
for Best Picture, Actress (Keaton), Director, and Screenplay. --Rick
