Pulp Fiction
Action, Comedy, 1994: 154 minutes
A Miramax Pictures Release
"What now? Well let me tell you what now. I'm gonna call a
coupla pipe-hitten' niggers, who'll go to work on homes here with a
pair of pliers and a blow torch. Hear me talkin' hillbilly boy?! I
ain't through with you by a damn site. I'm gonna git medieval on your
ass."
The film that revived John Travolta's career. And it was no mean feat
for director Quentin Tarantino, who avoided the dreaded sophomore
slump after his acclaimed Reservoir Dogs. Here Tarantino weaves
together three interrelated stories about lowlifes, with his trademark
profane language, casual violence, and shifts between humor and
extreme brutality. The cast is overrun with top-notch talent: Samuel
L. Jackson (in a career-making role as Travolta's partner in crime),
Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Christopher Walken, and Harvey Keitel are just
a few examples. The film's best section finds Travolta trying to
revive his boss's wife (Uma Thurman) after a drug overdose.
Exhilarating in its best moments and definitely not for the squeamish.
