Arguably the greatest American comedy of the sound era, Billy Wilder's 
Some Like It Hot does many things at once, and all marvelously. It's 
an uproarious parody of the gangster genre, a screamingly funny romp 
about cross-dressing, and Marilyn Monroe's most deliciously 
sweet-and-sexy vehicle. Underneath the nonstop hilarity and wit of the 
Wilder-I.A.L. Diamond screenplay is a poignantly feminist fable about 
men literally learning how hard it is to walk in women's shoes. By the 
end, caddish Tony Curtis not only seduces but empathizes with the 
sad-eyed blonde who's always gotten "the fuzzy end of the lollipop," 
while Jack Lemmon finds true love in the unlikely shape of Joe E.
