Unforgiven 
 
1992, 127 minutes 
 
       "It's a hell of a thing killin' a man. You take away all he's 
got and all he's ever gonna have." 
 
Clint Eastwood's elegiac masterpiece, written by David Webb Peoples 
(Blade Runner), ranks with such great end-of-the-West Westerns as 
Shane, One-Eyed Jacks, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and The 
Wild Bunch. As William Munny, an emotionally scarred killer 
reluctantly drawn back into gunfighting, Eastwood gives the 
performance of his lifetime. When a prostitute has her face slashed, 
Munny is hired to avenge the deed, but he has to contend with a 
corrupt, sadistic sheriff (Gene Hackman) and his own disgust over 
bloodshed. Splendid support is also offered by Morgan Freeman as 
Munny's saddle partner and Richard Harris as a flamboyant gunslinger. 
The bleak Western landscapes are beautifully photographed by Jack N. 
Green, and the richly textured town is the work of production designer
