The Silence of the Lambs

Jonathan Demme's film of nail-biting intensity had audiences literally
shouting at the screen in an effort to warn the celluloid heroine of
impending danger. F.B.I. trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster, in an
Oscar-winning role) is assigned to probe the mind of a convicted
murderer--a brilliant but psychotic psychiatrist--in the hopes he will
provide clues which will help track down a deranged serial killer. As
the diabolical but charming shrink, Dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal"
Lecter, Anthony Hopkins is dazzling (he also picked up an Oscar).
Though the film's subject matter is grisly, the electricity between
Foster and Hopkins during their prison t阾e-�-t阾es could power every
maximum-security prison in this country. --Jean Oppenheimer
