Described by Fran鏾is Truffaut as "truly my favorite Hitchcock 
picture, the very quintessence of Hitchcock," Notorious seamlessly 
blends eroticism and postwar political intrigue. Ben Hecht's perfectly 
constructed screenplay pairs Cary Grant as a cynical spymaster and 
Ingrid Bergman as the compromised daughter of a Nazi. Her assignment 
to spy on her father's former colleagues, and even to become the 
mistress of Claude Rains, kindles excruciating tensions within the 
guilt-ridden Grant, who gradually allows his feelings for her to break 
through his professional detachment. Notorious contains some of 
Hitchcock's most brilliantly executed set pieces, including Grant's 
clandestine search of a wine cellar and the famous long kiss he shares
