Top Hat
Romance, Comedy, Musical, 1935: 99 minutes
A RKO Radio Pictures Release
"In me you see a youth who is completely on the loose. No yens.
No strings. No connections. No ties to my affections."
The epitome of soigné musical filmmaking, Top Hat is perhaps the most
perfectly constructed of the Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers movies. With
Astaire impeccably singing such Irving Berlin tunes as "Top Hat, White
Tie and Tails," "Cheek to Cheek," and "Isn't It a Lovely Day To Be
Caught in the Rain," and gliding gracefully around art-deco sets with
Rogers, this movie is sheer heaven. Adroitly directed by Mark Sandrich
and choreographed by Hermes Pan, Top Hat has a witty screenplay by
Dwight Taylor and Allan Scott. The superlative supporting cast
includes Helen Broderick, Eric Blore, and Edward Everett Horton.
