       "I was a better man with you as a woman than I ever was with a 
woman as a man." 
 
Dustin Hoffman is an out-of-work actor who pretends, on a desperate 
lark, to be an actress--only to pass his audition with such flying 
colors that he finds himself locked very publicly, as a woman, into 
the role of a lifetime. Coincidentally, Tootsie has proved to be the 
role of Hoffman's life as well. He's been lovable in other roles but 
never this blazingly smart and lovable. Director Sidney Pollack keeps 
this rambunctious cross-dressing comedy in delightful motion, with a 
great cast that includes Jessica Lange, Bill Murray, Jack Warden, and 
(blink and you'll miss her) an early screen appearance by Geena Davis.
