A Room With a View

       "He wants you for a possession, something to look at, like a 
painting in an ivory box . . . something to own and display . . . he 
doesn't want you to be real and to think, and to live." 
 
A wry and agreeable comedy of manners from the celebrated team of 
Ismail Merchant and James Ivory. Adapted from the E.M. Forster novel, 
the film chronicles the romantic awakening of a proper young Edwardian 
lady (Helena Bonham Carter) on holiday in Italy with her stiff and 
disapproving spinster aunt (Maggie Smith). Filled with a gallery of 
eccentric characters, the film affectionately pokes fun at the 
puritanical and repressive nature of the British, while celebrating 
the liberating effect offered by the lush Florentine countryside and
