The Fly was founded in May 1994 by
Feng Jiangzhou who was an avant-garde artists.
The group members were the vocalist Feng Jiangzhou
,guitarist Gao Shengchun,bass Wang Lei and drummer Wang Yan.
From August of that year to March 1995,
The Fly recorded three singles which were released in the
local and foreign markets. These singles include"Nirvana",
"Gun and Bullet"and"You make me laugh very much".
Through these songs,the first'dirty music'by a chinese rock
band was born. The songs were an experience in the shocking
sound of dirt,chaos and shoddiness. The band's style was in
the line of Grunge and Punk,blended with Noise,Blues,
Jazz and some industrial approach to musical expression.
The Fly was a pioneer in China's punk rock music scene.
It was featured on whole-page articles in the Hong Kong
Standard and the China Daily of Beijing. The Fly was
dubbed the first Chinese dirt and rubbish band,and a
super fly.
Between 1994 and 1995,The Fly mainly performed in Beijing's party circuits.
From July to December of 1996,the band recorded its first album. By then,mos
t of the band members have changed,now consisting of vocalist Feng Jiangzhou
, guitarist Takahashi Koji, bass Sato Atsushi, drummer Guan Fei. They receiv
ed wide coverage from the mass media, including an on-site interview and fea
ture performance through Star TV, an interview shown in Chinese Star TV's'Ve
ry Chinese'program,features in BBC and Beijing International Broadcasting Co
rporation's program'Today's Pioneers'
