标 题: Feasibility Study Underway for a 200kW Fuel Cell in the North of England
发信站: BBS 哈工大紫丁香站 (Mon Nov 15 18:53:37 2004)
A feasibility study to look at the issues associated with the integration of a
200 kW fuel cell system on INEOS Chlor’s chlor-alkali facility in the North
of England is being directed by INEOS Chlor in collaboration with Hydrogenics
Corporation of Canada. Stopford Projects are performing the initial study over
a 5-month period funded by The Carbon Trust.
INEOS Chlor is interested in installing a large fuel cell system at Runcorn to
generate useful power from the by-product hydrogen that is generated on-site
and to support the development of its PEMcoat bipolar plate technology. The st
udy builds on existing relationships between the partners, with Hydrogenics br
inging their extensive knowledge of fuel cell system operation and design.
The feasibility study will address a number of key aspects related to the inte
gration of fuel cell technology on a large chlor-alkali complex. The study wil
l evaluate optimised options for electrical and thermal power usage, operation
and maintenance, fuel feed systems and the use of fuel cells as decentralised
power generators.
The Carbon Trust is highly supportive of schemes of this type: "We are delight
ed to be working with INEOS Chlor on this project. Linking a significant fuel
cell system to an existing hydrogen infrastructure is a groundbreaking initiat
ive that could have significant benefits for both the chemicals industry and f
uel cell development in the UK."
PEMcoat is a range of proprietary materials developed by INEOS Chlor, used as
coatings for metal components in fuel cells and allied technologies. Fuel cell
s with PEMcoat coatings offer higher power density and longer life and it is t
hese characteristics that have attracted demand from developers of fuel cells
for cars and portable devices. The PEMcoat range of materials now includes opt
ions for hydrogen fuel cells, direct methanol fuel cells and water electrolyse
