BERLIN, Nov 12, 2004 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The world's largest station for fu
eling car-driven hydrogen was inaugurated Friday in Berlin. 

Through two pumps, the station can provide two types of hydrogen energy -- liq
uid hydrogen (LH) and compressed gaseous hydrogen (CGH) -- for up to 100 vehic
les daily. 

Hydrogen is regarded fuel of future as it is widely available and its only byp
roduct is steam. While LH can propel cars in normal engines like petroleum, CG
H should be converted through fuel cells into electricity to power electric ve
hicles. 

BMW has developed prototype LH-powered cars, while DaimlerChrysler, Ford and O
pel are ready to produce electric vehicles driven by CGH. 

The 33-million-euro (37 million US dollars) hydrogen fueling station was joint
ly funded by the German government and "Clean Energy Partnership", which is a 
consortium of BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Opel and several German energy compa
nies.
