报告摘要：
Multirate systems are abundant in industry due to sensoring and actuating limi
tations.　In this talk, we will review basic concepts involved in multirate sy
stems modeling and　control, in particular, the shift-invariance and causality
 constraint. We will also discuss the standard tool used for multirate control
 systems analysis and design -- the so called lifted technique. Finally, we di
scuss some recent work on multirate process control, including mutlirate syste
m identification, multirate inferential control, and their application to a re
al industrial problem. 

报告人简介：
Prof. Tongwen Chen received the BSc degree from Tsinghua University (Beijing) 
in 1984, and the MASc and PhD degrees from the University of Toronto in 1988 a
nd 1991, respectively, all in Electrical Engineering.

From 1991 to 1997, he was an Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department o
f Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Calgary, Canada. Si
nce 1997, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineeri
ng at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, and is presently a Professo
r of Electrical Engineering. He held visiting positions at the Hong Kong Unive
rsity of Science and Technology and Kumamoto University.

His current research interests include process control, multirate systems, rob
ust control, network based control, digital signal processing, and their appli
cations to industrial problems. He co-authored with B.A. Francis the book Opti
mal Sampled-Data Control Systems (Springer, 1995).

Dr. Chen received a University of Alberta McCalla Professorship for 2000/2001,
 and a Fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for 2004
. He was an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control during
 1998-2000. Currently he is an Associate Editor for Automatica, Systems and Co
ntrol Letters, and DCDIS Series B. He is a registered Professional Engineer in
 Alberta, Canada.
