The 2005 International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
November 30-December 3, 2005, Beijing, China
The goal of the 2005 International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is to establish an international forum for engineers and scientists to present their original ideas and experiences in all the areas of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. This workshop will be held in Beijing, China, together with Computer Innovation 6016 (http://www.ict.ac.cn/ci6016/) and three technical conferences:
- The 8th International Conference on High-Performance Computing in Asia-Pacific Region (HPC-Asia 2005)
- The 4th International Conference on Grid and Collaborative Computing (GCC 2005)
- The 2nd IFIP International Conference on Network and Parallel Computing (IFIP NPC 2005)
You are invited to submit extended abstracts to the 2005 International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. Computer science and mathematics papers should contain a clear description of the biology problems being solved, while biology papers should show how computation plays an important role in solving the problems.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Bioinformatics databases
Microarray data analysis
MicroRNA and RNAi
Pathways, Networks, Systems Biology
Biomedical applications
Biological data visualization
Protein structures and complexes
Biological data mining
Pattern recognition
Sequence analysis
Evolution and Phylogenetics
Functional genomics
High performance computing for bioinformatics
Comparative genomics
SNPs and Haplotyping
String data structures and algorithms
Gene identification and annotation
The papers (extended abstracts) should be written in English and are limited to 10 pages, single-spaced, in 12-point type, including title, abstract (250 words or less), figures, tables, text, and bibliography. The first page should give keywords, authors’ postal and electronic mailing addresses. Papers must not have been previously published and must not be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Papers can be submitted electronically in MS Word, postscript or PDF format. All the submissions will be carefully reviewed by at least two experts.
Accepted papers will have 25 minutes of presentation time. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register and present the paper at the Workshop. Paper submissions can be sent to j3xu@csail.mit.edu or iscb@genomics.org.cn. A selected subset of accepted abstracts will be invited to publish a full paper in the Journal of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
Important Dates:
Submission deadline: July 21, 2005
Paper acceptance decision: August 11, 2005
Final revised draft due to publisher: August 26, 2005
Workshop Organizers

Computer Innovation 6016
November 30-December 3, 2005, Beijing, China
http://www.ict.ac.cn/ci6016/
The year 2005 is the 60th anniversary of the invention of modern computer, as well as the 30th anniversary of the invention of PC. China Computer Federation is to host an international meeting called "Computer Innovation 6016", to celebrate our profession (pending in cooperation with ACM, IEEE Computer Society, and IFIP).
The theme of this event is to reflect on the most significant milestones and innovations of our profession in the past 60 years, and to forecast/discuss the trends in the next 16 years. The scope of the event will cover technology, market, and education.
Computer Innovation 6016 will feature invited speeches, roundtables, an industrial forum, press/public activities, three technical conferences, and an exhibition.
Invited Speeches
Computer Innovation 6016 will invite international experts, from both academia and industry, to share their insights on past history and future trends of computer technology innovations, computer education, market and social impacts.
Roundtables
Computer Innovation 6016 will host three roundtables:
Round Table on Computer Innovation Trends
Round Table on Computer Education
Round Table on IT for the Mass
Industrial Forum
Computer Innovation 6016 will host a one-day industrial forum to allow vendors to showcase their latest technology.
Press/Public Activities
As a historical event, Computer Innovation 6016 will host a number of press and public interaction activities to connect the computer profession with our society. Both domestic and international press/media will be invited to participate in this event. Planned activities include a press conference, media interviews, special issues on trade publications, an edited book, and student participation.
Technical Conferences
Computer Innovation 6016 will include three international technical conferences:
- The 8th International Conference on High-Performance Computing in
Asia-Pacific Region (HPC-Asia 2005)
- The 4th International Conference on Grid and Collaborative Computing
(GCC 2005)
- The 2nd IFIP International Conference on Network and Parallel Computing (IFIP NPC 2005)
Exhibition
A commercial/research exhibition will be the highlight of Computer Innovation 6016. An exhibition space of 1500 square meters is reserved for vendors, users, and researchers of computer technology, both domestic and international.
