Sons so Gong-Ho


IT was while on holiday in the south of France last summer that I learned I had
been chosen to receive a knighthood. The news caused me to do much thinking
about how far I had travelled in life - and to wonder if I deserved the honour. 

My wife was not in favour of becoming Lady Cathy. 

She values her privacy and is always happiest when in the midst of her family and
friends. 

Involvement in the public dimension of my work has never appealed to her and she
was worried about the extra burdens the knighthood might create for her. 

When important issues have to be debated in the Ferguson household, we make
sure all members of the family take part - and on this occasion Cathy was
completely overruled by our three sons. 

Mark, Jason and Darren were adamant I should accept the honour with gratitude.
