Dalian Maritime University is the largest
 maritime institution governed by the
 Ministry of Communications of
 The People's Republic of China.
 It was formed in 1953 through amalgamation
 of three merchant marine
 institutions of Shanghai Nautical
College,Northeast Navigation College
 and Fujian Navigation School.
 It was assigned by the government
 as a key national institution of higher
 learning in 1960. Its history can be traced
 back to 1909 when the
 Shipping Management Section was funded by
 the Shanghai South Sea Public Affairs Institute.
 In 1994, it was organizationally restructured
 as a comprehensive institution of higher
 learning embracing five categories of Maritime
 Transport, Engineering, Management,
 Law and Economy that were
recognized by the State Education Commission
 as Dalian Maritime University.
 It currently has 2247 staff members including
 91 professors, 299 associate professors,
 311 lecturers and others as well.
 The amount of registerd students in this university
 is 6509 including 4963 undergraduates
 and sub-undergraduates for licence diploma,
 889 correspondence students,408 Master scholars and
 54 PhD.scholars. Among them, there are more than
 50 overseas students from 11 countries.
