before the class begins, let me zai4 guan4 dian3 shui3..xixi..
first is my application procedure,hope it  will help.
I took the GRE on April 1998 score ( V 620, Q 790,A 770)
it is not a high score in fact, but I am satisfied,
I have not prepare it for a long time, 
as to Verbal section, I think first word s is quite importtant( although 
I do badly in it)
and reading comprehension, doing as many as possible the zhen1 ti2 is more
useful than other practice.
Q and A is two section that we always think we can do well, but in fact it 
is not.,

especially A .do not ignanorce it, practice moer is my suggestion.

then I took TOEFL and TSE on one day.
TOEFL ( 637)
TSE (50)
I have not prepare much for TOEFL, since I do not want to put aside my wrok 
in the lab,
I even have not done the zhen1 ti2 of TOEFL for once. :(
but I do suggest you that do not think TOEFL is so easy.
the problem in TOEFL is becoming more and more difficult.
and do not forget to prepare TWE.( I forget it, and get a quite low score 
in it. 4.5)
TSE is quite important ( at least for me ) in the application.
(many univ. do not give RA to first  year graduate studetnt. such as UIUC,
and many of them requires TSE score > 50 to offer a TA such as UIUC too..)

but it is not a easy thing to get a score higher than 50.
if your Spoken ENglsih is nice, you should have a try.

GPA is quite quite important in application ( at least I think so,and many 
of my friends say it too) especially famouse univ.

so study hard in your courses in your major, your will find it useful.
(my GPA (under graduate) is 4.0/4.0  rank first)
if you have paer and research back ground and contact with prof. is quite 
a good idea.

and some info I get here:
if you can be a f-2 , take the chance,
it is easy to change f-2 to f-1  in U.S.

transfer here is also much easy, so the first step is to be here
and your major and your univ. can be changed after you come here.
