Course Description
Our Masters Degree covers the major aspects of control and systems engineeri
ng. The course is most suited to graduates with good engineering, mathematic
s or science first degrees, and for those working in the area who wish to ad
opt the systems approach to control or information related topics, or to upd
ate their skills. A full-time Master's degree course lasts for 12 months dur
ing which time you can accumulate 180 credits by attending course modules, c
ompleting assessed work, taking written examinations, conducting a research
project and writing a dissertation on the project.

The degree is modular in structure, giving you flexibility in the choice of
modules. You can choose from the options listed to suit your own interests,
be they in advanced control or information/ manufacturing systems. The modul
es cover ideas which are central to systems thinking and also demonstrate th
eir application in various fields. All the material necessary for real probl
em solving in a coherent and natural way is thus presented.
Modular structuring is ideal not only for the full-time students but also fo
r those wishing to do a part-time degree. Modules can be studied individuall
y, providing a valuable resource for research students and people working in
industry who need speedy coverage of a particular subject without taking th
e degree.
The year is split into two parts: the first part consists of lectures, tutor
ials and case studies, with written examinations in January and April.
The second part of the course is entirely project based. You can choose an a
rea which interests you or which, if you are seconded by your employer, is o
f particular value in your job. Indeed if appropriate facilities are availab
le, arrangements can be made for you to do your project at your work-place.
