The salary for the Teaching Assistantship will be $19,547 for the 
ten-month academic year, plus tuition remission and complete medical 
coverage for yourself and your dependents. You will have to pay a 
student fee, which is approximately $625 per semester. This appointment 
is for teaching assignments, which will involve recitation or laboratory 
sections, or grading in our undergraduate physics courses. The average 
time required is 12 to 15 hours per week. (Some mid-term and final exam 
proctoring may also be required.) With this appointment you would 
register as a full-time graduate student and would normally take 9 
credits of graduate work (3 courses per semester).

After your first year of study, you will be eligible for financial 
support in the form of teaching or research assistantships. Departmental 
support is generally guaranteed for at least the first three consecutive 
years of study. The department attempts to support all students for the 
duration of their studies, and essentially all graduate students in our 
program receive financial support in the form of grant-supported 
research assistantships, fellowships, department supported research 
assistantships, and teaching assistantships while in good standing and 
making satisfactory progress. Also, support during the summer is often 
available for teaching summer courses or in one of our research groups 
with stipends of $1700-$3600.
