In order to maintain the balance of population, Canada accepts 
about 220,000 new immigrants each year. The main immigrant 
categories include: skilled workers category(independent), 
business immigration (investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed)
and family class etc. 

Since it was elected in 1995, the Liberty Party of Canada has 
made a number of important changes to the immigration policy. 
These changes have led to a large increase in the number of 
independent technical immigrants and business investment 
immigrants and a proportional decrease in family immigrants. 
The primary reason for these changes is that family immigrants 
(elderly parents and relatives) increase Canada's social burden, 
while skilled workers and business investment immigrants 
contribute to the Canadian economy. The immigration policy 
for 1998 keeps the door open for skilled worker immigrants
